1) What types of storage containers does A-1 offer?

A-1 offers several different sizes and types of ground level storage containers to meet your needs. We recommend to discus your needs and describe what you are using the container for so that we can provide the best storage solution for your needs.

Heavy Duty Container

  • Our Heavy Duty Containers are constructed with a thicker grade steel, stronger flooring which allow you to drive equipment into them and to have the container relocated while loaded. Ideal for construction sites, but can be used everywhere!

Lite Duty Container

  • Our Lite Duty Containers are constructed with a slightly thinner grade steel, flooring that you CAN NOT drive equipment into making them UNABLE to be relocated while loaded. Ideal for applications where NO equipment will need to be driven into them and they will NOT require the need to be relocated while loaded. Ideal for retail applications, file storage, etc.

All Steel Box  

  • It has all steel walls, ceiling and floors. A convenient smaller on-site storage solution when you need a secure on-site solution but not as a big as the Heavy or Lite Duty containers. Ideal for remodelers, residential on-site projects, excess inventory, file storage, etc.

2) What is the difference between a Connex Box, ISO Container, Shipping Container, Cargo Container and a Storage Container?

Storage Containers have been given different names in different regions and even in different industries. Connex Box, ISO Container, Shipping Container, Cargo Container and Storage Container all mean the same thing. Although a box have to be approved to be sea worthy before it can be used to ship goods overseas.

5) How are A-1's storage containers constructed?

Heavy Duty Container (MOST CAN BE RELOCATED LOADED)

  • 14 gauge corrugated steel sides and roof.*
  • 14 gauge steel double cam-locking doors
  • Approx 1-1/8" marine grade wood plank floor raised approx. 6 inches from the ground. The floor is also reinforced with cross beams every 12 inches.
*Some of our "High Cube" and 48' containers are built with aluminum sides & roofs
 
Lite Duty Container (CAN NOT BE RELOCATED LOADED)
  • 16 gauge corrugated steel sides and roof.
  • 16 gauge steel double doors each with tri-cam locking system
  • Approx 3/4" plywood floor raised approx. 6 inches from the ground. The floor is also reinforced with cross members 16" on center.
ALL STEEL BOX   (SOME CAN BE RELOCATED LOADED)
  • 22 gauge corrugated steel sides and roof.
  • 22 gauge steel double doors each with tri-cam locking system
  • 22 Gauge steel - 3/16" Diamond Plate Floor

6) How secure are A-1's storage containers?

All of A-1's storage containers are very secure. We are happy to discuss your needs to help you find the best solution to meet your application. Each of our storage containers offer different types of security. We are constantly looking for new and improved ways to make storage more secure!

Heavy Duty Container

  • Heavy Duty Containers are equipped with a fully welded "Lock Box".
  • The "Lock Box" provides a secure place for your lock to be hidden inside it and will prevent tampering to your container and its contents.
  • In addition each door has two handles with hasps that allow you place additional locks.
  • A secure way to ensure that your materials, merchandise or supplies will be there when you need them.
  • Requires use a "Pad Lock" style lock.

Lite Duty Container

  • Lite Duty Container is equipped with a tri-cam locking system that includes three solid interior locking bars, padlock pocket and concealed lever lock.
  • A secure way to ensure that your materials, merchandise or supplies will be there when you need them.
  • Requires the use of a Dicus Style lock. Upon request we can deliver and bill you for this type of lock.

ALL STEEL BOX  

  • 8'w x 7'6"h x 8'l - equipped with 2 places to secure a lock that includes  solid interior locking bars,
  • 8'w x 7'6"h x 10'l - equipped with a solid steel central hasp to be secured with a round "Hockey Puck"* style lock that includes three solid interior locking bars,. In addition it is also equipped with 2 places to secure a lock. Upon request we can deliver and bill you for this type of lock.
  • 8'w x 7'6"h x 15'l - equipped with a solid steel central hasp to be secured with a round "Hockey Puck"* style lock that includes three solid interior locking bars,ed to the tailgate. In addition it is also equipped with 2 places to secure a lock. Upon request we can deliver and bill you for this type of lock.
* The "Hockey Puck" style lock and hasp is virtually drill resistant. Its heavy case hardened steel body and hardened steel lock body withstand forcible attacks. Shackle shroud protects against bolt cutters. Chrome rustproofing provides longer life. Solid Steel 6-Pin cylinder.

7) What colors are A-1's storage containers?

A-1's storage containers and ground-level offices are painted standard neutral colors (gray, off-white) and also can be red, green, blue or yellow. Please request a neutral color if you are needing it to blend in with surroundings. If you're purchasing a unit and require a specific color to match your building or company colors, please let us know.

8) Are A-1's storage containers weatherproof?

A-1 strives to maintain and check to see that all of our containers and offices are wind/water proof tight prior to delivery. A-1 cannot guarantee against leakage or build-up of condensation on the ceiling of any of our storage containers, commonly referred to as "sweating". Temperature variations and moisture already in your stored items (i.e.: wood furniture) can cause "sweating" to occur.

9) Can A-1 storage containers be relocated while loaded?

Yes - our Heavy Duty containers can be relocated while loaded with our loaded container handling system called the "Swing Thru". For more information please see our Loaded Container Handling System page.

10) How quickly can a storage container be delivered?

A-1 offers centrally located branches in Lexington and Louisville, KY allowing delivery as quickly as 24-72 hours, unless you're having modifications done.  If you need something sooner, same day delivery may be available. Call us today - 1-866-488-2699!

11) How much space is needed for delivery/pick-up of A-1 storage containers?

Space needed will vary based on the type of storage container you have ordered and the type of truck the container is being delivered with. Please discuss with us your storage needs and where you want the container placed so that we can schedule the right truck and storage solution to meet your needs. 12) How are A-1 storage containers delivered?

The type of container and location for delivery will help determine how your container is delivered. Please discuss with us your storage needs and where you want the container placed so that we can schedule the right truck and storage solution to meet your needs. 13) What site preparation needs to be done prior to delivery of a storage container?

We deliver on concrete, paving, asphalt, gravel, grass, firm-packed dirt. To deliver your portable storage container, all we need are the directions-and a reasonably level, firm, smooth surface.Please keep the building in the condition in which it was delivered.
 
NOTE: Delivery on soft ground or wet ground can cause the container to shift once loaded and possibly make the doors to become difficult to open and close. It will cause removal of container to be difficult and possibly be delayed. See  What are A-1 Portable Buildings' End of Lease and Return Requirements?

14) Can storage containers be leveled on-site?

Yes. If the container can be delivered with the "Swing Thru" trailer. The "Swing Thru" allows blocking & leveling to be done while the container is being placed.

15) Does A-1 offer container modifications?

Yes. A-1 can modify a storage container to meet your needs. We have several building sin stock and are happy to discuss your custom needs with you. Please visit our Modified/Converted Storage Container page.

16) What are A-1 Portable Buildings' Delivery Procedures & Responsibilities?

  • A-1 Portable Buildings, Inc. (A-1) is not responsible for local code requirements or building codes.
  • The customer is responsible for access to the site and an appropriate cleared area for delivery.
  • A-1 cannot be responsible for ground settling after delivery.

17)What maintenance of the storage container is the Lessee responsible for while on lease?

  • Any damages or need for repair other than normal wear and tear will be the responsibility of customer.
  • Please keep the building in the condition in which it was delivered.

18) What are A-1 Portable Buildings' End of Lease and Return Requirements?

  • Read thoroughly, complete, sign.and submit a PICK UP REQUEST FORM
  • Lessee may cancel initial lease after expiration of the stated initial lease period by giving CONFIRMED notice to Lessor at either the Lexington/Louisville Sales office within (14) days prior to actual termination of this agreement.
  • Ground must be dry/frozen before pick-up will be made.
  • All obstruction removed from all sides & top of the mobile/modular building
  • All trash/materials removed and floor has been cleaned/broom swept
  • Minimum clean up fee of $100 or $50 per additional hour if required.
  • Electric has been disconnected
  • Plumbing has been disconnected
  • Phone/data lines have been disconnected
  • Key(s) have been placed inside unit (Cost for replacing lock is $50 per lock)
  • If any unmet criteria prevents driver from removing leased unit from customer’s site, an attempted pick-up fee will be charged to customer’s account. Per the lease agreement, the unit will remain on rent until accessible for pick up
